Among the upcoming designers, Simone Rocha one of the few who have generated the most buzz. She is the heir to an important fashion legacy (her father is designer John Rocha) and has been awarded the Newgen sponsorship backed by Topshop, and the fashion industry certainly has their eye on this young talent. For her A/W 2012 collection, Simone further explores the balance she is known for between masculine strength and modern femininity. The staples of the collection, with respect to colours, are white, cream and grey, with splashes of bright yellow. The neutral palette beautifully combines with the strong silhuette and elaborate details. The texture is mesmerizing, as she uses unusual materials and techniques to bring her pieces to life. The fabric is often wrapped in a thin, shiny plastic coat to add strength and sharpness to the lines. The final effect is elegant, yet unusual, understated yet astonishing.
